The Association of Washington Healthcare Plans (AWHP) represents all major medical health plans offered in Washington state, all health plans offering coverage through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange, and all health plans holding Medicaid Managed Care Organization contracts with the state Health Care Authority. Our members cover nearly 7 million Washingtonians.
What is the purpose of AWHP?
AWHP is the voice of the health plan community about common concerns, providing information and analysis from the health plan perspective to public policy makers and regulators, and supporting solutions for the complex health care issues confronting our state.
Our Vision
Washington’s health care plans are valued partners with businesses and health care providers, ensuring people receive the right care at the right time, and at a reasonable cost.
Our Values
Transparency: Employers and enrollees can understand their benefits and how to access care.
Affordability: Laws and regulations support health plan designs that keep premiums down, encourage use of the right care at the right time, and permit carriers to work to control medical costs and out of pocket expenses.
Quality Care: We support a regulatory environment that allows health plans to incentivize providers to deliver high quality medical services through medical management programs and innovative contracting arrangements.
Stable Markets: Public policy should support reasonable financial performance requirements for health plans, limited assessments or taxes, and reducing cost drivers that make coverage less affordable.
