Why We Act
Health care is the second most expensive part of every family's budget. Health plans make health care more affordable by negotiating payments to doctors and hospitals, and guiding patients to the right care at the right time. AWHP was formed 22 years ago by health plans to advocate for a stable individual insurance market, and we have continued that work for decades on behalf of all Washington insurance markets.
Today, AWHP advocates for a stable insurance market for all health plan lines of business. Making insurance affordable makes it easier for people to access high quality care. A stable market supports affordability.
What We Do
AWHP acts on behalf of the health plan community to explain the complexities that exist at the nexus of paying for health care and delivering health care. We support effective laws and regulations that protect consumers and don't increase the cost of buying insurance or paying for health care. AWHP adds the unique perspective of the health plan to public policy discussions about health care in Washington state.
